Abstract

The effect of metabolic inhibitors and local anaesthetics on the electrically induced nerve impulse was investigated on the unmyelinated cerebrovisceral connective of fresh-water mussel Anodonta cygnea. On the basis of results it can be established: 1. Redox-processes, namely functioning of oxidase enzymes are important in realizing the impulses (KCN and monoiodoacetic acid block; NaN₃ and TSC do not inhibit). 2. Fluoride ions are able to substitute the chloride ions (total substitution of NaCl for NaF does not inhibit). 3. As regards the effect of procaine, tetracaine, lidocaine and EGYT-201 the cerebrovisceral connective of fresh-water mussel behaves similarly as the myelinated and unmyelinated peripheric nerves of mammals.
