Abstract
This paper aimsto develop a geospatial information system based land evaluationmethodfor rainfed farming. To produce geospatialinformationofpotential areasfor sorghumusing Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) approach. The land suitability is basedon the biophysicaland soil factors.Theanalysis aimed at the productionofgeospatialinformation displayed in mapsand a graphshowing potentialareas that are suitable for rainfed farming. Afuzzy modelingdecision analysis tool integrated with map algebra expression ADD (+) Geographical Information System (GIS) analysis operationwasused to combine the information from several criteria to form a single suitability map. The results showed the land parcels that aresuitable, marginal suitable and non-suitable for sorghum. The suitability map was overlaid with the existing land use to identify areas that are plowedfor sorghum that are on suitable areas.
