Abstract

It has been established that in the cerebrial, visceral and pedal ganglia of the fresh water mussel (Anodonta cygnea L.) the demonstrability of the Nissl-substance shows a change connected with the periodic activity of the animal; at the beginning of activity the overwhelming majority of cells exhibit a massive basophily, while at the beginning of the period of rest neurons containing Nissl-substance can be found comparatively rarely. It is assumed that the change of the basophily of the ceil connected with the periods activity and rest is not an accompanying phenomenon but it is in direct connection with the central control of the periodic activity.
