Abstract
The PSI method of Sterba is well suited to indicate the neurosecretion of the fresh water mussel (Anodonta cygnea L.). The fluorescence observed in the cells agrees with the frequency of the Gömöri-positivity obtained with the Gömöri—Вargmann method. The fluorescent structures frequently seen in the neuropile correspond to the axons and nerve endings containing densecore vesicles and found also here under the electron microscope. On the grounds of our investigations it seems that the fluorescent substance of the cells and their processes is of the same nature, in one neuropile secretion-transporting axons very abundantly appear which verifies the high sensitivity of the PSI method. On the basis of these findings it can be stated that the DCV-s not only morphologically but also аs to their chemical nature correspond to the elementary neurosecretory granules. As to the role of the DCV-s it is probable that they represent elements of non-cholinergic synaptic structures.
