Abstract
In tills work the susceptibility of lasting rhythmic activity produced by KCl and tryptamine in glochidia of freshwater mussel (Anodonta cygnea L.) to substances containing SH-groups and to KCl and SH-inhibitors was investigated. It was establithed-that from among these substances SH-inhibitors are able to inhibit the increased activities caused by KCl and tryptamine. HgCl₂ and ZnSO₄, are capable also of increasing simultaneously the ratio of closed animals. The inhibition produced may be limited to a certain degree by Lmethionine, whereas L-cysteine and glutathione may decrease, also when used alone, the degree of activity-increase produced by KCl and tryptamine. The data obtained emphasize the importance of free SH-groups of protein receptors or enzymes in the mechanism of effect caused by KCl and tryptamine.
