Abstract
Amber was a very important commodity even in ancient times. The amber trade has also stimulated the development of several regions and many cities with a long history owe their rise to it. The etymological study of the various names of amber in European languages not only does help to unlock a complex network of linguistic-cultural content related to its commerce, but the reconstruction of its LWV also shows its supposed origin, characteristic properties and potential uses.
