Abstract

1. By morphological investigation and biotnetric measurement we have found that there is only a difference in size-order between S. varia and S. Sadleriana 2. Results of cytological analysis: S. varia 2n=28, S. Sadleriana 2n=56; hence the varia is a tetraploid, the Sadeleriana an octoploid species. 3. The results of our observations lend support to the theory that S. Sadelriana is the result of polyploidizing from the dealpin S. varia and not a permanent hybrid.
