Abstract
A considerable reduction of the weight of induced phytocarcinomata was obtained in tomato plants inoculated with Bacterium tumefaciens, by capping the stem tips with black cloth or paper. The hormonal syndroms accompanying this effect, such as: epinasty, swelling of the stem and of the roots, stimulation; of the initiation and development of the axillary shoots, etc. were interpreted as typical transverse reactions, and the tumour reductions obtained were tentatively explained by a similar mechanism of action.
