Abstract
The Dieselgate scandal and the glyphosate saga have led to the EU-level concentration of risk assessment competencies and the reconsideration of institutional and functional independence of the new or rearranged EU-level risk assessors. This process also relates to national-level expert bodies, yet the national autonomy, technically and formally, still prevails regarding organisational issues. Even if the sector-specific characteristics remained relevant in road transport and food safety areas, the potential for cross-sectoral learning procedures could be identified clearly between some EU agencies and other expert bodies (in-house bodies vs agencies). Notably, the transparency of different types of risk assessor bodies is pivotal in open communication and raising public awareness of the severe risks associated with the EU’s Single Market regulation.
