Abstract

Industrial buildings often create a living heartbeat for entire urban districts, when the function no longer exists due to any factor, be it social, economic or even technical redundancy the city naturally suffers. The former industrial facility is usually demolished making way for a new concept or if undeveloped falls under the label of "rust belt" or "brown field." In Ljubljana an alternative concept has been applied, that of "Second Chance". Keep the building and find a new function, moving from industrial to social/arts function can also revitalise a broken-hearted city.
