Abstract

Modernist buildings are often overlooked when considering restoration, whilst this restaurant on the shore of the Lake Balaton has been correctly addressed. The original character and spatial arrangement form the character of this building, as do the use of materials. Modernization of the Modern succeeds in revitalizing an original function by upgrading some of the technology without compromising the original, Ferenc Callmeyer's, architectural intent. This project informs the method by which modernist buildings can become the next generation of monumental buildings. Beautifully executed and socially adept.
