Abstract
The detailed palaeopathological analysis of the cemetery of Zselicszentjakab Benedictine monastery has allowed us to gain a deeper insight into the life of a monastic order. In study, we have done a comparative analysis of the different burial areas, the one inside the church building, and the burial areas around the church. Thus, 123 individuals from the 130 graves were examined as burials from the medieval monastery. The mortality data reflected that men were typically buried here, especially outside of the church area. Thus, in accordance with the archaeological data, the presence of monks can be de-monstrated mainly in the areas to the south of the church, while inside the church there are probably more secular burials. The anthropological data also gave us insight into the lifestyle and quality of life of those buried in the monastery
