Abstract

Collaborative robots are capable of work performed jointly by humans and robots, the safety aspects of which are of fundamental importance in relation to the design of the work environment. Robots and people can only move freely in the workplace in appropriate places, there are also prohibited areas for robots and workers. To differentiate this, the colour-based work area designation is one of the simplest and, in some respects, cost-effective solutions. During our tests, we used the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robot to examine the detection capabilities of the robot's colour and light sensor, the effect of different programming options on the robot's movement, and the proper detection of the red and blue areas. As a summary, we can draw the conclusion that the sensors of mobile robots are suitable for navigation purposes, they are able to accurately recognize and distinguish colours and can therefore be used well even in an industrial environment to achieve both navigation and related occupational safety goals.
