Abstract

This publication is based on a lecture by Elemér Mályusz, presumably given in the early 1930s. The introduction to this publication clarifies the circumstances of the lecture. The topic of Mályusz’s lecture is the history of the 19th century, which he consciously approaches from an intellectual history perspective, pointing out the importance of romanticism, positivism and liberalism in the context of the period. As the introduction points out, Mályusz’s other related works emphasise the negative role of Judaism in 19th century social history, which significantly detracts from the essentially positive and engaging message of what he said here.
