Abstract

A tanulmány a Marcaliban élt Lengyel-Mayer család kereskedő és értelmiségi tagjainak életútját követi nyomon 1832-től 1975-ig, különös hangsúllyal a család tagjainak zsidó identitására, az integrációs törekvésektől a neológ zsidó vallási irányzattal való azonosuláson át a radikális asszimilációig. Bár a családtagok közül a híressé vált, kommunista meggyőződésű Lengyel József (1896–1975) látszólag teljesen szakított zsidó örökségével, az elhallgatott zsidó származásra utaló jelzések mind az írásaiban, mind a vele készített interjúkban fellelhetők. | This study examines the lives of the merchant and intellectual members of the Lengyel-Mayer family between 1832 and 1975, with a particular focus on the evolution of their Jewish identities. It explores the family’s journey from aspirations for integration and identification with Neolog Judaism to radical assimilation in Marcali. While József Lengyel (1896–1975), a prominent Communist writer and family member, appears to have severed ties with his Jewish heritage, traces of his origins can still be discerned in his writings and interviews.
