Abstract

A tanulmányban olyan interjúkból válogatunk és elemzünk részleteket, amelyekben a helyzetből adódóan szükséges volt értelmezni, hogy mit is jelentett az emlékező egykori közösségének vagy családjának neológ, statusquo ante vagy orthodox jellege. Ilyen részleteket főként a 20-21. század fordulóján készített izraeli Yad Vashem, amerikai Shoah Foundation (Visual History Archive), illetve a magyarországi Centropa Alapítvány interjúiban találtunk. A visszaemlékezések alapján azt mutatjuk be, hogy milyen vallási vagy épp kulturális, életmódbeli szempontok váltak meghatározókká, határpontokká a csoporthoz tartozásokban, illetve a visszaemlékezők milyen egyéni és családi stratégiákat idéznek fel ezekkel kapcsolatban. Érdeklődésünk fókuszában a határhelyzetek álltak: vegyes hátterű családok élete, közösséget váltó családok, illetve a közösségi szinten lezárt határok egyéni szintű átlépésének lehetőségei. | In this study, we select and analyze interview excerpts in which the situation required the interviewee to interpret what neology, status quo ante, or orthodoxy of his/her former community or family meant to him/her. Such details were mainly found in interviews of Yad Vashem (Israel), Shoah Foundation (Visual History Archive, USA), and Centropa Foundation (Hungary), conducted at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. On the basis of the memories, we show which religious, cultural, and lifestyle aspects became decisive and borderline points in group membership, and which individual and family strategies the interviewees recall in connection with these aspects. The focus of our interest was on borderline situations: such as the lives of families with mixed Jewish religious backgrounds, families who changed communities, and the possibilities of crossing closed boundaries at the community level on the individual level.
