Abstract
1. In cross circulation experiments for the transfer of shock it is imperative to maintain the stability of body weight of the recipient animal by regulating the volume of inflowing and outflowing blood. 2. A considerable fall of blood pressure occurred in about 30 per cent of th e dogs which underwent blood exchange at the rate of 10 to 20 ml/min. for th e first time. This transfusion reaction could be prevented by promethazine. 3. The reaction seemed to be determined by a substance present in plasma and was independent of the group properties of the blood corpuscles. 4. It was not possible to transfer lethal tourniquet shock to the intact partner by means of cross circulation carried out under the above experimental conditions.
