Abstract

Tanulmányunkban e hiátus felszámolásához szeretnénk hozzájárulni azzal, hogy előbb a puszta és pusztásodás fogalmának etimológiáját, különféle jelentésváltozatait járjuk körül, majd ezek figyelembevételével kísérletet teszünk a pusztásodás fogalmának történeti definiálására, valamint a jelenség tágabb kontextusba illesztésére; lehetőségeinkhez mérten téziseket fogalmazunk meg, éppen ezért írásunk propedeutikus természetű. A gazdaság- és társadalomtörténeti, valamint a természeti tényezők témáját jelen dolgozatunkban csupán érintjük. | In our study we overviewed the connotations of the words puszta and pusztásodás (translated to English as desolation), also defining the meaning of the latter in the context of historical geography. In this paper we applied the method of historical philology. Using a propaedeutic approach, we presented three theses. First, the term referred to the late medieval realignment of the settlement network and the demographic spatial structure, can also be applied to the similar tendencies of our days, which of course cannot be traced back to the exact same underlying causes. Second, along with the reasons, which were already established by researchers dealing with the topic (famines, epidemics, wars, natural disasters, etc.) — that in our study are named as partial reasons — we essentially pointed to aspects of social and economic history. Third, we also designated the directions of forthcoming — primarily interdisciplinary — research, at the same time hopefully providing a point of reference to those interested in the topic.
