Abstract

2018-ban egy régen elfeledett iratkötegről érkezett bejelentés a Zenetudományi Intézetbe. A bejelentő egyetemista korában – közös terepmunka keretében – együtt dolgozott Sárosi Bálint és Víg Rudolf népzenekutatókkal. A váratlanul előkerült kézirat valódi tudománytörténeti kurziózum, ugyanis Víg Rudolf peremlyukkártyákra tervezett, befejezetlen népzenei adatbázisát tartalmazta, köztük eredeti Bartók-támlapokkal. A közel 300 dallamlejegyzést számláló kézirat pontos keletkezési dátuma bizonytalan, az 1963 és 1969 közötti időszakra tehető. A lelet számos kérdést vet fel. Hogyan próbálták algoritmizálni a népdalok rendezését az elektronikus számítógépek megjelenése előtt? Vajon ezeket a tapasztalatokat sikerült-e átmenteni a későbbi kutatásokba? Egyedi, elszigetelt esetről van szó vagy egy nagyobb, soha meg nem valósult kutatási program keretében készült mintaadatbázissal van dolgunk? Miért található feltűnően kevés zenei adat a fennmaradt kártyaterveken? Lehet-e, érdemes-e digitálisan rekonstruálni egy befejezetlen mechanikus zenei adatbázist? Az alábbi cikk ezekre a kérdésekre keresi a választ | In 2018, a long-forgotten bundle of documents was reported to the Institute of Musicology in Budapest. During her university years, the submitter had worked together with Hungarian folk music researchers Bálint Sárosi and Rudolf Víg on fieldwork. The unexpectedly discovered manuscript is a real curiosity in the history of folk music research as it contained Rudolf Víg’s unfinished mechanical folk music database written on punched cards, including original Bartók transcriptions. The exact date of the manuscript, which contains nearly 300 tunes, is uncertain, but is estimated to date from 1963 to 1969. The manuscript raises many questions. How were attempts to algorithmise the ordering of folk songs made before the appearance of electronic computers? Have these experiences been carried over to later research? Is this a single, isolated experiment or a sample database from a larger research programme that has never been published? Why is there very limited musical data on the surviving punch card plans? Is it possible or reasonable to digitally reconstruct an old mechanical music database? The article will seek answers to these questions
