Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the experiences and procedures related to first aid provided by law enforcement services.Methodology: A quantitative survey was conducted among customs officers of the National Tax and Customs Administration between April and August 2023. The research involved semi-structured interviews with ten customs officers. The majority of the interviewees were male (80.0%). The average age of the study sample was 40.5 years (SD = 6.59; CI 95% 36.2 – 45.1), while the average number of years in service was 13.3 years (SD = 6.92; CI 95% 8.6 – 17.9).Findings: According to the results of the research, first aid knowledge and skills for law enforcement officers are quite often needed in practice. Customs officers most often provide first aid in the event of accidents, trauma or acute nausea. Lack of first-aid training mobilises negative emotions in the person taking action: feelings of insecurity, fear, helplessness. Negative feelings make the first aid less effective.Value: This is the first study that has used qualitative methods to examine first aid practice that provided by customs officers. | Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the experiences and procedures related to first aid provided by law enforcement services.
