Abstract
The essay presents and analyzes the public estimation documents stemming from a 16th-century trial within the Bánffy family involving a daughter’s quarter and a section of the Valkó manor in Kraszna County. The documents created during the trial, transcribed in the form of deeds of privileges in 1588, throw a light on the legal system of Transylvania and its characteristics, and the estimation in question in one of the transcribed diplomas can be regarded as significant in terms of estate and agrarian history. The voivode’s representative, sent to execute the trial decisions, and the witnesses of the Várard chapter surveyed the estate part of Ferenc Bánffy in 12 settlements and separated the daughter’s quarter from this. Not every settlement of the Valkó manor visited appears in the estimation, but it lists the landowners of each village, the stone or wooden churches, mills, wells, springs and the forests belonging to the estate.
