Abstract
Church- state relations in the former socialist states are polychromatic and divergent. 1 Religiosity and secularization, together with the roles religious organizations play in the political process and how they relate to political power, are far from uniform. Seeing some of the reorganized national Churches and the increasing roles of the clergy, some researchers even refer to nationalists “hijacking” religion for their illiberal purposes.
