Abstract

The main meteorological station at the Széchenyi István Geophysical Observatory equipped mostly with Campbell Scientific meteorological instrumentshas undergone a major change in recent years. Data download from the datalogger has been automated by a mini-PC, new instruments have been added(ceilometer, visibility and present weather sensor, barometer) and the stationhas been moved to a new location. Now it better complements the atmosphericmeasurements in the observatory, for example by facilitating the determinationof the so-called fair-weather conditions for the evaluation of atmospheric potential gradient measurements. Additionally, a cooperation with the HungarianMeteorological Service (HMS) has been established, in the framework of whichmeteorological data are transmitted from the observatory to the HMS. Plots ofthe station data, updated every 10 minutes, are available on the observatory’swebsite.
