Abstract

A tanulmány részletesen áttekinti azokat az objektív művelődés- és társadalomtörténeti adottságokat, melyek eldöntötték, hogy az ország második egyeteme Kolozsváron épüljön fel. Ezek összefüggtek a város adminisztratív regionális főváros jellegével, politikai múltjával, túlnyomóan magyar lakosságával és nimbuszával, a helyi művelődési intézmények gazdagságával, valamint a felsőoktatás ottani előzményeivel. Részletes bemutatásra kerülnek az egyetemalapítást követően születő jelentősebb képzőhelyek, művelődési mozgalmak és iskolatörténeti változások, az egyetem helyzete a helyi társadalomban és az 1918-as hatalomváltás drámai hatásai: a magyar egyetem átmeneti megszünése. Az utolsó alfejezetek az új egyetem akadémiai sajátosságait és a kolozsvári értelmiség szerkezetét tárgyalják összehasonlítva a nagyrégió (Erdély és Partium) nagyvárosaival. A korabeli modernizáció és a nemzetépítés legtöbb szellemi tőkegyűjtéssel és elitképzéssel kapcsolatos területén Kolozsvár kiemelt, sokszor egyedülálló szerepet játszott az ország vidéki városai között. | The study presents an overview of educational and socio-historical circumstances and conditions in which the decision was made to establish in Kolozsvár/Cluj the second Hungarian university. This was connected to the administrative function of the city as a regional capital, its political past, its overwhelmingly Magyar population and public image, the richness of its cultural institutions as well as the numerous local academic antecedents. Further on are studied the instances of higher learning founded in the wake the university, the upcoming movements and changes in the local field of advanced training, the position of the university in the given urban society and the dramatic consequences of the power transfer in 1918 : the temporary cessation of the Hungarian university in the city. The last sub-chapters deal with academic particularities of the Kolozsvár alma mater and the internal stratification of the intelligentsia in the city as compared to other major towns of Transylvania and Partium. In most contemporary fields of modernization and nation building connected to the accumulation of intellectual capital and elite training the role played by Kolozsvár/Cluj proved to be exceptional, often unique, as compared to other provincial towns.
