Abstract

A tanulmány a 20. századi Magyarország egyik legismertebb női csecsemőgondozó szakemberével, Pikler Emmi (1902-1984) életével és munkásságával foglalkozik, aki orvosként és gyermekgondozási szakemberként is jelentős befolyással bírt a csecsemőgondozás és a csecsemőotthonok fejlődésére a második világháború utáni időszakban. A tanulmányban Pikler Emmivel készített életútinterjúk, publikációi és egyéb személyes források (oral history, memoárok) alapján vázolom fel Pikler gyereknevelésről alkotott elképzeléseit. A korai, reformpedagógiai indíttatását és családorvosi módszere kialakulását követően a gyereknevelési kiadványai alapján elemeztem szakértői tevékenységét. A második világháború alatti, majd a szocialista nevelési publikációk két vitatott pontját, a sírni hagyás és az időre szoptatás elveit, a korszak nevelési trendjeibe ágyazva vizsgáltam meg. A Pikler nevével összefort Lóczy Lajos utcai Csecsemőotthon történetének egyik fájdalmas és elhallgatott pontját, a politikai okokból családjuktól elszakított csecsemőktörténetét tártam fel, különböző emlékek alapján. | The study examines the life and work of Emmi Pikler (1902–1984), one of the most prominent infant care specialists in 20th-century Hungary. As a physician and an expert in child care, Pikler significantly influenced the development of infant care practices and infant homes in the post-World War II era. Based on life-history interviews with Pikler, her publications, and other personal sources, the study outlines her conceptual framework for child-rearing. Following an exploration of her early inspiration from reform pedagogy and the evolution of her methods as a family physician, I analyze her professional contributions through her child-rearing publications. Furthermore, two antagonistic aspects of her work—the principles of cry it out and scheduled breastfeeding—are examined within the context of contemporary pedagogical trends during World War II and the socialist period. Finally, the study addresses one of the ignored and painful episodes in the history of the Lóczy Infant Home, closely associated with Pikler’s legacy: the experiences of infants separated from their families for political reasons, reconstructed through various personal recollections.
