Abstract

Al-12.6Si alloy was solidified in a vertical Bridgman-type furnace equipped with a rotating magnetic inductor to induce the flow in the melt. The eutectic alloy was solidified unidirectionally by a growth rate of v = 0.1 mm/s, by a temperature gradient of G = 6 K/mm and with or without magnetic stirring. The interlamellar distances, the length, and orientation of Si lamellas were investigated by using new measuring methods.
