Abstract

Nowadays, ceramic materials having adequate strength and good electrical insu-lating properties, but also can be sintered at relatively low temperatures, play an increasingly important role. Ceramics providing this property combination are the glass-composite cera-mics. The low-temperature sintering is ensured by the glass powder added to the base ceramic (which is usually alumina). Glass is typically a well-designed oxide frit that is sintered and melts/softens below 1,000 °C. In this research work, the effect of firing temperature on the properties of glass/ceramic composite ceramics was studied. The samples were prepared by injection moulding technology. Density, porosity, flexural and compressive strength, thermal conductivity of the fired samples was measured. The morphology and the phases of the fired products were also analyzed.
