Abstract

In our previous research, we have already demonstrated that the measurement of the recirculation torque is a suitable method to investigate the faults of small plastic gears. The recirculation torque is the torque required to rotate the gearbox fitted with the gears under no load. In addition, we have shown how tooth thickness faults can be detected by this method. In this research, we investigated the effect of the pitch faults. To do this, we used SLA 3D printing to produce gears that contained a tooth that was displaced from its original position. The resulting gears were then paired with gears without a fault, and using a torque measuring device we designed, the torque curves were compared to cases where none of the gears contained a faulty tooth.
