Abstract

It is well established that lichens in general are vulnerable to air pollution, among which lungwort Lobaria pulmonaria is particularly sensitive. This actual study aimed to investigate whether transplanted lungwort could survive where the air quality has improved after been highly polluted in the past. This study showed that L. pulmonaria could be successfully re-established, and that there was a fairly good survival rate over the duration of the project. This can be seen as a positive signal regarding air quality and its impact on sensitive species.
