Abstract

The lichenological exploration of a farm area near Stanford, Overberg region in Western Cape (South Africa) revealed the presence of 89 species. The semi-natural plant cover of the area is fynbos and Restionaceae vegetation. Epiphytic lichens were collected mostly on older oak trees, which were planted near the farm buildings. The epilithic species occur on acid quartz rock and on shale rich in minerals. Only a few species were found on soil because of frequent bush fires. The new combination: Eilifdahlia ferrugineovirens (basionym Placodium ferrugineovirens ) is proposed. Bactrospora patellarioides, Crespoa carneopruinata and Sphinctrina tubaeformis are new to South Africa.
