Abstract

Throughout the history of surgical procedures, a variety of compounds and methods—topical, local, and inhalation anaesthetics—have been used to reduce pain, including dental pain. However, the most significant milestone in this history occurred on October 16, 1846, when the first public demonstration of ether anaesthesia was performed at Massachusetts General Hospital.
