Abstract
Electric dental drills were invented following Edison’s new invention of electricity. First operated by batteries, later by alternate current, drills improved their speed of rotation from a few hundred to 800,000 rpm today. Parallel with the increase in speed, water cooling systems were added, and the drill was incorporated into the dental unit.
