Abstract
Nowadays, everyone is familiar with the probiotic products on the market and uses them as needed. These products with beneficial bacteria are administered both therapeutically and preventively in many fields of medical practice. In both gastrointestinal and oral health, the role of probiotics is growing, and numerous research activities are aimed at understanding their true properties. It has been a long way to understand the complex functions of these microorganisms over the past millennia. Parallel to this, microbiological diagnostics underwent necessary development, ensuring the increasing accuracy and reliability of results obtained in these research activities.
