Abstract

Aphthous ulcers are one of the most common diseases of the oral mucosa, affecting approximately 20 per cent of the population. Their size can vary from very small, pinhead-sized, to 1 centimetre, and rarely giant aphthae of 2-3 centimetres can develop.
