Abstract
The objective of this chapter is to present the evolution of Hungarian agriculture from 1990, utilizing the most up-to-date data sources. The chapter examines changes in agricultural holding structure, production structure, land use patterns, and agricultural dependency. The primary conclusion drawn from the research is that the post-socialist transformation of Hungarian agriculture was a prolonged and still ongoing process rather than a fixed historical moment. Although key events, such as Hungary’s accession to the European Union, led to changes and adjustments in this transition process, they did not significantly alter its overall trajectory. Furthermore, the chapter highlights the current and future social and environmental implications resulting from the changes in Hungarian agriculture.
