Abstract
The spatial filtering of driving signals of dense loudspeaker ensembles is a frequently arising problem in the field of sound field reproduction. A straightforward example is antialiasing filtering in applications involving Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) theory. However, direct spatial filtering of the loudspeaker driving functions may be computationally challenging, requiring special hardware architectures for complex loudspeaker geometries. The present contribution discusses an analytical approach allowing the transformation of spatial WFS filters into simple temporal filtering by exploiting the spatial-temporal interconnection present in WFS driving signals. As a result traditional filter design techniques can be directly employed for spatial filtering problems. The presented theory is directly applied to antialiasing filtering of WFS driving signals and validated via numerical simulations.
