Abstract

A populáris kultúra politikai dimenziói kiemelt kutatási terület, különösen a művészek közéleti szerepvállalása és a rajongói közösségek politikai attitűdjeinek vizsgálata szempontjából. Tanulmányunk a performatív aktivizmus fogalmának relevanciáját és kortárs magyar rajongói diskurzusokban való megjelenését elemzi a Carson Coma zenekar példáján keresztül. Kvalitatív kutatásunk keretében két fókuszcsoportos interjút, két félig strukturált egyéni interjút és két páros interjút készítettünk, 17 és 25 év közötti fiatalokkal. Eredményeink azt mutatják, hogy a Carson Coma rajongói diskurzusaiban megjelenik a politikai szerepvállalás összekapcsolása az autenticitás kérdésével. A résztvevők a hitelesség megőrzését elsősorban a személyes érintettség és a következetes közéleti jelenlét mentén értelmezik, míg a performatív aktivizmushoz kapcsolódó kritikák leginkább a közéleti megnyilvánulások piacosíthatóságára és a valódi kockázatvállalás hiányára fókuszáltak. Eredményeink összhangban állnak a populáris kultúra mobilizáló erejét hangsúlyozó kutatásokkal, ugyanakkor árnyalják azokat azzal, hogy bemutatják a hitelesség és a piaci logikák közötti feszültséget. A Carson Coma példája azt jelzi, hogy a politikai szerepvállalás a populáris kultúrában egyszerre lehet mozgósító erő és kritika tárgya, attól függően, hogy a közönség mennyire érzékeli azt őszintének és következetesnek. | The political dimensions of popular culture are a major research area, particularly in terms of the public engagement of artists and the political attitudes of fan communities. Our study analyzes the relevance of the concept of performative activism and its representation in contemporary Hungarian fan discourses, using the example of the band Carson Coma. As part of our qualitative research, we conducted two focus group interviews, two semi-structured individual interviews, and two paired interviews with youth aged 17 to 25. Our findings indicate that in fan discourses regarding Carson Coma, the issue of political engagement is closely linked to the question of authenticity. Participants primarily interpret the preservation of authenticity through personal involvement and consistent public presence, while critiques of performative activism mainly focus on the marketability of public statements and the lack of genuine risk-taking. Our results align with research emphasizing the mobilizing power of popular culture while also providing a more nuanced perspective by highlighting the tension between authenticity and marketdriven logic. The example of Carson Coma suggests that political engagement in popular culture can be both a mobilising force and an object of criticism, depending on the extent to which audiences perceive it as sincere and consistent.
