Abstract

Aim: The publication describes the operation of a specific disciplinary instrument, the officer's court of honour trial in the Border Guard in 1960, and through this it provides the reader with a subset of the disciplinary relations of the time, the procedures and regulations applied.Methodology: Analysis of the top-level expectations and honour court trials with the help of original border guard documents preserved in the National Archives of the Hungarian National Archives, related Ministry of the Interior regulations and contemporary Hungarian People's Army regulations.Findings: The disciplinary situation of officers needed to be significantly strengthened. One possible means of this was the honour court trial, which in certain situations was highly anticipated by the Border Guard leadership.Value: The rules governing the conduct of disciplinary proceedings of a specific nature, the way in which they were conducted, and the description of specific events will provide an insight into the conditions prevailing at the time for the interested reader.
