Abstract
Various accession of Beta maritima, B. procumbens, B. vulgaris and B. webbiana were inoculated with the Hungarian DH isolate of the beet necrotic yellow vein Furovirus (BNYVV). The susceptibility or resistance of the plants was determined by DAS-ELISA method and back-inoculation test on Chenopodium quinoa and Gomphrena globosa plants. Beta procumbens (884465), B. webbiana (884455) and eight Beta vulgaris ssp. responded with hypersensitive necrotic local lesions. In the maritima accessions of six Beta vulgaris ssp. several resistant plants could be found. From the point of view of resistance the accessions P. I. 546396, P. I. 546413 and P. I. 868338 deserve special attention. The Beta vulgaris accessions P. I. 169023 (Turkey), P. I. 169030 (Turkey), P. I. 266100 (Poland), Ames 2661 (USA Utah), Ames 3049 and Ames 3051 (USA California) showed immunity. Out of the Beta vulgaris subspecies of various origin adanensis (BGRC 36500), cicla (BGRC 49749), maritima (BGRC 49834, 49845, 29846, 29847, 54778, 54779) responded with necrotic local lesions, while vulgaris (BGRC 51424), cicla (BGRC 49734) and maritima (BGRC 49844, 51432, 54776, 54783) showed systemic mosaic in response to the virus.
