Abstract

A portugál építészetben máig meghatározó az 1950-es években végzett népi építészeti felmérés hatása, habár már másféleképpen – összetettebben és gyakran rejtettebben, mint a huszadik század második felében. Egyrészt áttevődött a hangsúly a népi, regionális hagyományokról a tágabban értelmezett kontextusra, másrészt sok esetben nem tudatos regionalista megközelítésről van szó, sőt, akár a szándékos, vele szemben meghatározott öndefiníció ellenére érhető tetten. | ARCHITECTS: ATELIER DATA Portuguese architecture's contextualist engagement continues the legacy of the 1950s folk architecture survey (Inquérito), shifting from explicit regionalism to a more abstract influence. A key example is Atelier Data's conversion of an 18th-century Franciscan chapel in Moncarapacho, Algarve, into a gallery. Honoring the building's sacred past using traditional materials (whitewash, terracotta) while introducing a massive three-flight ramp as the main intervention. This ramp dramatically extends the exhibition path, creating a new internal landscape that contrasts with the dark-toned rear addition, showcasing a modern connection to place.
