Abstract

A tanulmány a vállalati környezetvédelmi motivációk, a környezeti menedzsment szintje, a környezeti hatások alakulása és a versenyképesség közötti kapcsolatot vizsgálja hazai közép- és nagyvállalati mintán. A kutatás újszerűsége abban rejlik, hogy hazai kontextusban elsőként alkalmaz strukturális egyenletmodellezést (PLS-SEM) e komplex összefüggésrendszer vizsgálatára. Az elemzés a Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem Versenyképesség Kutatóközpontjának Versenyben a világgal című 2025-ös kérdőíves adatfelvételén alapul, a méret és ágazat szerint reprezentatív minta 335 vállalatot tartalmaz. Az eredmények minden vizsgált hipotézis esetében szignifikáns, jellemzően közepes erősségű pozitív kapcsolatot jeleznek, amely a környezeti menedzsment szintje és a környezeti hatások alakulása között a legerősebb. Az eredmények alátámasztják a Porter-hipotézist, miszerint a környezetvédelmi teljesítmény javítása nemcsak fenntarthatósági cél, hanem versenyelőnyt is eredményezhet. A kutatás gyakorlati implikációi szerint a belső vállalati motivációk – például értékalapú elkötelezettség vagy szervezeti kultúra – megerősítése hosszú távon javíthatja a környezeti és versenyképességi mutatókat is. | This study investigates the relationships between corporate environmental motivations, the level of environmental management, environmental impacts, and competitiveness, based on a sample of medium-sized and large Hungarian firms. The novelty of the research lies in the application of structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), novel in a Hungarian context in this research field to explore the complex system of interrelations. The analysis uses data from the "In Global Competition" survey, that was carried out in early 2025 and was coordinated by the Competitiveness Research Centre at the Corvinus University of Budapest. The sample includes 335 firms and is representative for industry and company size. The results support all tested hypotheses, by showing significant and mostly moderate positive relationships. The strongest association is found between the level of environmental management and environmental impacts. The findings also support the Porter hypothesis, suggesting that improved environmental performance can serve not only sustainability objectives but also contribute to firm level competitiveness. From a practical perspective, the study implies that supporting internal corporate environmental motivations – such as value-driven commitment or sustainability-oriented organizational culture – can lead to long-term improvements in both firm-level environmental performance and competitiveness.
