Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of various effects on the length of productive life. Analyzed was dataset containing records from 24 189 culled Slovak Pinzgau cows, with first calving between 1983 and 2003. The risk ratio 1.554 fór year of first calving, 0.995 fór age at first calving, 0.880 fór stage of lactation, and 0.963 fór level of average lifetime milk production within herds were estimated. The risk ratio by farm type was nőt significant. Higher risk of culling fór younger cows were stated, related to year of first calving. The risk of culling fór cows from herds with high average lifetime production and in the later stages of lactation was lower. The correlation coefficients between sources of variation were low. The highest positive correlation was between years of first calving and level of average lifetime milk production within herds (r=0.1109), the lowest relationship was between year of first calving and classes of age at first calving (r=—0.0968).
