Abstract
This work aims to numerically study a latent heat storage system consisting of a tank filled with a phase change material, through which a heat transfer fluid flows. A comprehensive parametric study was conducted to analyze the thermal and dynamic performance of the system, examining the effects of various parameters, including tank height, heat transfer fluid mass flow rate, phase change material layer thickness, and the amount of energy stored during the charging process. The system was modeled using computational fluid dynamics to simulate the phase change phenomena. It was seen that a higher mass flow rate led to a shorter storage time and reduced stored energy, with values of 19.25 kWh for a flow rate of 0.6 kg s−1 and 20.16 kWh for a flow rate of 0.4 kg s−1.
