Abstract

Climate change is currently one of the most discussed topics at both the global and local levels. Efforts to adapt to these changes and mitigate their negative consequences are becoming a priority for society, professional circles, and policymakers. This paper analyzes the connections between climate change and the negative impacts of excessive urbanization. The aim is to provide an overview of the current state of surface runoff in urban areas, as well as an assessment of possible water retention measures to improve the capacity of the sewer network. The present paper focuses on a case study of a specific city, where the impacts of climate change and urbanization on surface runoff were analyzed. The implementation of water retention measures was proposed to improve the capacity of the sewer network.
