Abstract

A tanulmány bemutatja, hogy a cenzusok eredetileg a lakosok számbavételét, listába vételét jelentették, majd „a kereszttáblák korában” fokozatosan az összefüggésekre került a hangsúly. A kereszttáblák korában rengeteg olyan háttértábla készült kisebb aggregátumokról, amelyek a társadalomtörténet kiaknázatlan forrásait jelentik. A 20. század végén, a jelen század elején a népszámlálások adatbázisait személysoros szociológiai adatbázissá alakította a minnesotai IPUMS projekt, és a magyar statisztikai hivatal is hozzáférhetővé tette az 1970–2022. évi adatokat. | The study demonstrates that censuses originally meant the enumeration and listing of inhabitants, and then, during the “era of cross-tabulations,” the emphasis gradually shifted to correlations. In the era of cross-tabulations, numerous background tables were created about smaller aggregates, which represent an untapped resource for social history. At the end of the 20th and the beginning of the current century, the database of censuses was transformed into person-level sociological databases by the Minnesota IPUMS project, and the Hungarian Central Statistical Office also made the data from 1970–2022 accessible.
