Abstract
A numerical study optimized the thermal performance ofan aluminium tube filled with porous media metal foam. The investigation analyzed four aluminium metal foammodels, including those with and partially filled metalfoam and multi-layered metal foam of differentporosities. The multi-layer porosities, which represent adual permeability setup, specifically. The porosity ofmetal foam varies from 0.9 to 0.92, and the pore density(PPI) varies from 10 to 30 PPI. The Darcy-ExtendForchheimer model was used for flow dynamics withinthe porous region. The local thermal non-equilibriummodel was applied within the porous-filled region of thepipe to analyze heat transfer characteristics. The resultsshowed that the thermal performance of a fully filledporous metal foam structure is superior to that of apartially filled structure. As well as multi-layer porositiesof aluminium metal foam exhibited greater thermalefficiency than single layers.
