Abstract
HUNGARIAN HOUSES, MILAS, TURKEY AUTHORS: Rita Pataky, Mátyás Egri, Zsuzsanna Emília Kiss, Dr. Máté Gergő Kovács In the southwestern region of Turkey, in the city of Milas near the Aegean Sea, several buildings are identified both by local residents and on online maps as "Macar Evleri," meaning "Hungarian houses." The factors that attribute a Hungarian identity to these structures, the origins of this designation, and its persistence for over a century are key research questions. These topics were addressed by a special research and education project established in the summer of 2025, coordinated by the Department of History of Architecture and Monuments, the Department of Building Structure, and the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre in Istanbul.
