Abstract
This study examines how the EU Matrimonial Property Regulation – although Hungary did not participate in the enhanced cooperation that led to its adoption – is enforced in Hungary. My purpose is to make it clear that, although that EU act is not de jure binding in Hungary, its provisions were taken into account in the codification of the Private International Law Act, both in the field of jurisdiction and in the field of applicable law. The differences arise solely from the specialty of Hungarian law, in particular from the joint management of the personal and property relations of the spouses. I also analyze the relationship between the legal institutions belonging to the general part of private international law (choice of law, general diversion clause) and the EU regulation.
