Abstract

Tanulmányunk központi témája a közösségi tudomány (citizen science) szerepe és jellemzői az európai térben. A kutatás célja, hogy feltárja, vajon milyen típusokba sorolhatók az EU-ban működő citizen science projektek és hogyan járulnak hozzá ezek a fenntartható fejlődési célokhoz és a környezetvédelemhez. A téma relevanciáját az adja, hogy a fenntartható fejlődés és a környezeti kihívások kezelése az Európai Unió számára stratégiai kérdés, amelyben a polgárok bevonása új lehetőségeket teremt a tudomány és a társadalom kapcsolatának erősítésére. Módszertanunk két adatbázis feldolgozásán alapult: egyrészt az European Citizen Science platform 359 projektjének tartalomelemzésén, másrészt az Európai Bizottság megbízásából készült, 410 környezetvédelmi fókuszú projektet összegző leltár vizsgálatán. Eredményeink szerint a citizen science projektek széles spektrumon mozognak a helyi közösségi kezdeményezésektől a mesterséges intelligenciát alkalmazó globális programokig. A projektek többsége a biodiverzitás megőrzéséhez, a levegőminőség javításához és a környezeti tudatosság erősítéséhez járul hozzá. A tanulmány hasznos lehet a tudományos közösség, a döntéshozók és a civil társadalom számára egyaránt, mivel rávilágít arra, hogy a citizen science költséghatékony, innovatív és társadalmilag inkluzív eszközként támogathatja a fenntartható fejlődés előmozdítását. | The central focus of our study is the role and characteristics of citizen science in the European context. The aim of the research is to explore into which categories citizen science projects operating in the EU can be classified and how these projects contribute to sustainable development goals and environmental protection. The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that sustainable development and addressing environmental challenges are strategic issues for the European Union, where citizen involvement creates new opportunities to strengthen the relationship between science and society.Our methodology was based on the analysis of two databases: first, the content analysis of 359 projects available on the European Citizen Science platform, and second, the examination of an inventory of 410 environment-focused projects compiled on behalf of the European Commission.Our results show that citizen science projects range widely from local community initiatives to global programs applying artificial intelligence. Most projects contribute to biodiversity conservation, air quality improvement, and the strengthening of environmental awareness.This study may be useful for the scientific community, policymakers, and civil society alike, as it highlights that citizen science can serve as a cost-effective, innovative, and socially inclusive tool to promote sustainable development.
