Abstract

Közügy, sőt kiemelt nemzeti érdek a hazai tudomány fellegvárának hatékony és objektív működése, ám ez nem valósul meg, különösen a társadalomtudományok területén. A Polgári Szemle társadalomtudományi folyóirat hasábjain így helye van a hibák feltárásának és a javító szándék kifejtésének. Egy nemzeti intézmény esetében ez nem támadás, hanem a jobbító szándék kifejezése. Az akadémikusok tudományos teljesítménye, működésük, az akadémiai utánpótlás objektív, átlátható kiválasztási folyamata az ország érdekeit szolgálná. Egy széleskörű értelmiségi diskurzus bontakozott ki a változtatások módjára vonatkozóan, amely 2025 tavaszán, az MTA 200 éves jubileuma időszakára felerősödött. A feltárt problémák mára a társadalmi közbeszéd szintjére emelkedtek. Az akadémikusi teljesítmények elégtelen volta ma már sokak nem tetszését kiváltja, miközben a magyar tudományos élet a teljesítményhiányos MTA tagok befolyása alatt áll 2, sőt a politikai közbeszédet is igencsak tematizálni akarják 3. A dolgozat bemutatja, hogyan képes egy nem átlátható, nem objektív módon működő gyenge tudományos teljesítményt felmutató MTA a gazdaság versenyképességét gyengíteni, a tudományos utánpótlás minőségét aláásni. Az akadémikusi teljesítményhiány kimutatására az empirikus közelítésen túlmenően konkrét tudománymetriai elemzési módszerek kerülnek alkalmazásra. A dolgozat igazolja, hogy egy teljesítményalapú új Tudományos Akadémiát kell létrehozni, új akadémikusokkal. | The effective and objective functioning of the citadel of domestic science constitutes a public matter of paramount national interest, yet this imperative remains unrealized, particularly within the social sciences. The pages of Polgári Szemle (Civic Review), as a leading social science journal, therefore provide an appropriate forum for exposing institutional deficiencies and articulating reform initiatives. In the context of a national institution, such critique does not constitute an attack but rather expresses a constructive commitment to improvement. The enhancement of academicians’ scientific performance, institutional operations, and the establishment of objective, transparent processes for academic succession would fundamentally serve the nation’s interests. A comprehensive intellectual discourse concerning reform methodologies has emerged, intensifying during spring 2025, coinciding with the bicentennial celebration of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The identified institutional challenges have now ascended to the level of public discourse. The inadequate performance of certain academicians increasingly provokes widespread dissatisfaction, while Hungarian scientific life operates under the influence of underperforming members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, who demonstrate a pronounced tendency to politicize academic discourse. This paper demonstrates how a Hungarian Academy of Sciences that operates through non-transparent, non-objective mechanisms while exhibiting diminished scientific performance can undermine economic competitiveness and compromise the quality of academic succession. To substantiate the performance deficiencies of academicians, the analysis employs concrete scientometric methodologies complementing empirical observations. The paper establishes that a reformed Academy of Sciences, founded on performance-based principles and constituted by newly appointed academicians, must be established.
